Airlines ,Hotels version of pay-by-use policies

Recently , I came across two news items communicating their new model to charge customers for their service.
1. Virgin Australia - Australian airlines which will be charging customers baggage based on the number of pieces / baggage rather than the traditional method of charging my extra-weight ( kilograms ). Extra baggages will attract flat fees rather than charging by per kilo-gram
2. Babochki Anticafé - Russian cafe in Moscow which will be charging customers by the amount of minutes spent rather then the price for their refreshments !

At the first glance these models defy logic but a closer study would help to appreciate the reasoning behind these moves.
With evolution of cloud , we have seen the wide acceptance of Software-as-a-Service and Infrastrcuture-as-a-Service models Trend seems to have caught up with other business as well who are on constant look out for innovating methods to acquire and retain customers.
Hope it is win-win for all !

You can prove anything with numbers !

It's the time of the year where several companies review their yearly performance and set new sales targets. ( many companies have Apr-Mar as their financial year)
It's always a hard time to negotiate down the sales targets .
So may be this video can provide some tips to play with numbers.
Found it hilarious :-)
Just reminded me of a old quote which says ' You can prove anything with numbers !'.

Books for Colombia:Innovation through Pizza !

'While returning from classes, can you pick up a bottle of milk from nearby store ?' -for many it is a familiar day to day scene in households. Utilising the return travel and optimising it for productive effect starts from home and has been effectively used by many organisations especially those is logistics business.
Few of them have become more responsible and are doing their bit for the society.
One such innovative project comes from Spanish airline carrier Iberia and pizza chain ,Telepizza.

The concept was based on the suggestion of a Telepizza employee who saw the potential of the empty-handed drivers on their way back from delivering pizzas. Aiming to put that potential to work for good, the effort invited delivery customers in Madrid to donate unwanted books for delivery to the needy in Colombia. Telepizza drivers used the empty space in their vehicles to transport the books to the local Telepizza outlet; from there, they were sent via Iberia aircraft to Colombia. These books are collected by a NGO and distributed to libraries.
With every pizza you help someone read !
