BPM in Gartner's Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2008 !
As business keeps spreading across geopgraphies and when newer technologies revolutionalizes the way business is run,the complexity in organizations
tend to increase.
This is where , efficient business processes plays a critical role in
providing competitive advantage to and organization.
Think for a moment a simple activity of ,depositing a cheque in your bank.It involves a series of steps right before an SMS could give you a confirmation
that your cheque has been credited.
As a customer , you would like this to happen at the earliest so that your bank
balance is healthy.So to make this happen , there needs to be well defined
process to facilitate a chain of activities that could go on smoothly and error free.
Once this is laid down well , IT systems are more a enabler to execute this process.
So everytime you find there is a delay in cheque processing or errors in your bank acoount, its just a PROCESS problem that needs to be fixed.
In this context its heartening to see that "Business Process Management",is being identified as one of the Top 10 Strategic Technologies for 2008by Gartner.
It is unfortunate that there is a misconception among several folks that,
process means its something to do with quality department!
Next time if you find your customer shouting over a software product you delivered,
don't go and fix the developers and testers,instead fix your PROCESS!
